It was a fabulous conference for our Be The Inspiration Rotary year.
 
I wrote last week about our CR Foundation and leadership service by Bill Wahoff, President, as well as his resignation.  
 
Our CR Foundation is now led by Sandy Knoesel as President.  Sandy is a Past President of CRC and also serving as an Assistant Governor in our District 6690 to several clubs.
 
Thank you Bill and Sandy.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE RECAP
A number of members joined with hundreds of Rotarians from District 6690 and District 6650 (NE OHIO outside Cleveland) on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 at the Polaris Hilton.  Not only was the club well represented by attendees, a few of our members had key roles a presenters.  Mimi Tadesse, Tom Carlisi, & Clarence Mingo held sessions on CG Women's Empowerment, Peace Builders, and Diversity, Adversity and Inclusion.  
   
16TH Annual High School Fair

Our Monday, May 13 luncheon is the 16th Annual Student Service Above Self Program High School Fair. Please see the following information and note that the Luncheon/Fair is not at the Boat House.
We need an accurate count of Rotarian attendance by May 1. Please email Rick Studer if you will be attending all or part of the Fair.

16TH Annual High School Fair
May 13, 2019
 Valley Dale Ballroom
 
AGENDA
11:00-11:50   Fair attendees walk through the project exhibition space to talk with the student community service teams and:
  • Learn about their community service projects.
  • Reinforce their efforts.
  • Provide an opportunity for them to interact with community leaders and practice presentation skills, confidence, civic engagement, etc. 
 
                      11:50-12:00   Pick up box lunches.
 
12:00-1:15    Luncheon
  • Welcome and Remarks. Columbus Rotary President Calloway Robertson. Columbus City Schools Superintendent  Dr. Talisa Dixon. Columbus Director of Education, Rhonda Johnson. City Council Member Priscilla Tyson.
  • Recognition of corporate sponsors and others with key roles in the Student Service Above Self Program. 
  • Recognition of student community service project teams.
  • Community service project presentations by four selected high school teams.
  • Presentation of Columbus Rotary’s Service Above Self and
Make-A- Difference Scholarships.
 
Valley Dale Logistics:
  • 1590 Sunbury Rd. (43219) Just past Ohio Dominican University on the east side of Sunbury.
  • Watch for Rotary signage and a Columbus Police Officer slowing down traffic and guiding people to the one Valley Dale entrance.
  • Parking is free, plentiful, and right next to the Valley Dale Ballroom for easy access to the Fair.
CALLING ALL BOTTLES
In an effort planned by the Derby Day Soiree committee we are asking members to bring a bottle of wine or bourbon to the Rotary office this week for inclusion in an "wine tree" that will be available at the May 4 event.  $25 minimum value.  You can get tickets in the next story!

The Columbus Rotary Derby Day Soirée is the club's largest fundraiser of the year. Funds raised go back to the local and global community providing dictionaries for students, scholarships, veteran mentoring services, the Scioto Audubon Obstacle Course, the Junior & Senior High Service Above Self Fair, the Rafiki Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya, three water wells in Ethiopia and much more. Each year the club gives back more than $250,000 in aid.
