Janet Porter, Ph.D.


Janet Porter has 40 years of experience in public health and healthcare.  During the course of her career, Janet has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Associate Dean of Executive Education at the University of North Carolina’s School of Public Health, and as Vice President and then Chief Operating Officer of Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  Her collegiate faculty experience includes appointments at Harvard University, The Ohio State University, University of Minnesota, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Colorado, and the University of Miami.


Dr. Porter believes passionately in service through transformative leadership.  Compiling an exemplary record of service, Dr Porter has been recognized with appointments to the boards of trustees of The Ohio State University, the Wexner Medical Center, the AARP and its National Policy Council, the OSU Alumni Association, and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership.  Recent consulting clients include the Mayo Clinic, Boston Children’s Hospital and Kaiser Permanente.


Janet holds a BS and MHA from The Ohio State University, and an MBA and PhD in healthcare strategy from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Porter has been recognized by the U of M with the Gaylord Anderson Award, the University’s highest honor given to an alumnus who has made a significant contribution to public health, and by Ohio State with the Mershon Award, given to an alumnus for outstanding service to the University. She lives in Hilton Head, SC, with her husband Jim O’Sullivan.
